OUR “FARMER” APPROACH ON TRAINING FARMERS
We believe that our trainers should use the F-A-R-M-E R Approach meaning:
- FERTILIZE the farmers “plants” and their surrounding “soil”. Give the appropriate knowledge in a conducive environment.
- ATTACH the farmers’ ‘garden/field to the large commercial farming, make it an integral part of the whole country economy. Show farmers how they connect to the whole country’s economic network. Connect the farmers to each other hence teach them synergies and symbiotic relationships that leverage their common interest, goals and resources
- REMIND everyone often about their business growth targets; measure individual and team performance; and provide timely feedback. Review progress regularly in the farm and aerate the soil as needed, keep in mind that honest and frank discussion are as important as nutrients are to a plant.
- MANAGE learning by distinguishing between situation and individual and act accordingly
- ENCOURAGE farmers to branch out and extend their roots, expecting them to grow as much horizontally as vertically.
- REMOVE obstacles that can impede training progress, growth and development in the farm (organisation). Train participants to solve small problems before they endanger their whole crop (project) like removing insects before there is an infestation.
